The system just doesn't see the microphones. Any ideas on how I can fix this? I tried to download all of the drivers from the DELL website using the automatic service tag detection and DELL system detect to find any missing drivers, but some of the chipset drivers listed lead to a blank page with nothing to download.
Go to Solution. Go back to the Recording tab of the Sound properties right click the audio icon and select Recording devicesthen on the blank white area, right click and select show disabled devices, then do it again and select to show disconnected devices. If the mic still does not show then go to the Playback tab and see if the word "Realtek" is there under Speakers. If not then the Realtek driver is not installed. If the driver is there and still no mic then it might be defective.
Did the mic work at all with Win 8? View solution in original post. That worked. Didn't know about the right click to display disabled devices trick. Yes, Realtek was already installed. I have no idea why the internal mic was set to disabled. Browse Community. Turn on suggestions. For example, the increasingly popular Topaz denoise, sharpen and upsizing plugins for Photoshop run almost entirely on the GPU and achieve pretty terrible performance on systems without a dedicated GPU with at least 4GB of video memory. It might be time to start considering that when recommending systems for photo editing as well as video editing. RandomFlux said:.Standard Delivery Free.

The Laptop does not appear to have its own speakers or Microphone, surely that is not right? I have connected speakers to the dock. Look at the XPS 13 Specifications document to see the features of that model.
Click on "Specifications", the "Audio" to see that it has 2 speakers and a microphone array. You can get drivers by clicking on Guide Me or I just use "Find It Myself", but you have to click on the blue "Change OS" button and select your operating system, in order to get the correct drivers. Thanks Jim I have updated the bios and drivers as suggested. It appears that the dock which is not a thunderbolt but the Dell UHD port replicator may override the laptop when it comes to microphone.
As shown in the pic above it comes up as Dell USB audio not plugged in? There is no option for selecting internal microphones for some reason. Do I have to purchase a separate microphone with a USB plug in to the dock perhaps? Further when I check system device manager only the speakers are showing in the audio input output section?
Dell XPS 13 windows 10 built-in microphone not working, please help!
I googled that but couldn't figure out exactly what it is, under that name. If it is a usb device like one of Dell's usb-3 docks, then it would show itself in the Sound properties as a usb audio device, as in your screen shot.
The chip converts the digital signal to analog, which goes out the headphone jack. But analog audio cannot go out over a usb connection, so to get to the usb replicator, it has to remain a digital signal.
Not ever having used one of the usb replicators, I am not sure exactly what one would expect from it, but I would think that the Sound properties would show all of the audio devices in the overall system, not just the usb device. Go back to the Sound properties and right click in the blank white area under the usb Speakers listing, and check the boxes to show disabled and disconnected devices.
If doing that does not produce any more devices in the list, unplug the replicator and restart the laptop. Then check the Sound properties again. Normally you would see something like this:.It should be enabled by default. You will see a selection for " Adjust Volume For " at the top. Select Recording. If it is not already there, put a check mark in the box next to Microphone.
Select OK. Your Volume Control should now have the slider for the Microphone. Make sure it is selected and not muted, and then try adjusting the level higher. If you wish to use these programs, it is strongly recommended that you purchase an external microphone that is recommended by the software manufacturer.

Dell Support Resources.A similar story to a few other posts. Very low volume outgoing using the internal Mic in a Skype call. Latest version available on the Dell support site - Skype 7. Calls to Test Call return nothing or very quiet voice.
Control panel, Sounds, Recording shows almost no movement in the display unless you shout or tap the Mic area above the screen. Playing with all the various enhancement options both in Control panel, Sounds, Recording and Dell Audio don't seem to have any effect. This is not really a long term solution but does seem to work correctly. I'm not certain yet whether the problem is Dell hardware, Windows 10, Skype or the Realtek drivers.
But more or less out of the box the combination seems to be currently broken and unusable. Given that the generic driver works it suggests the problem is mainly with Realtek vs Windows We understand that the microphone volume is very low even after setting the system volume to the maximum.
Please check if there is an update available for the driver. If yes, update the driver with the latest version and check if it works.
Hope this help you. For any queries related to Windows, please contact us and we will be glad to help you. Did this solve your problem? Yes No. Sorry this didn't help. Do a search for that version, you will find it on the Wayback Machine January snapshot or Sourceforge. Unfortunately I don't think you will see Microsoft or Realtek come out and say there is an issue.
